A successful initiative selling hand-crafted glass platter plates has seen 蜜桃女孩 students donate $1,140 to local not-for-profit organisation, People Supporting People.

The VCAL Work Related Skills class of 2022 presented the funds to People Supporting People recently and spoke to charity coordinator, Azem Elmaz about their project making and selling the plates.

From designing the patterns and artwork on the platters, to imprinting the designs using the kiln and managing the sales and money collection process, the students led the charge on the project from start to finish.

Student Calin Andronaco said his class had been drawn to People Supporting People as their chosen charity due to the work they do to support local emergency services and disadvantaged people in the Greater Shepparton community. This includes providing meals for the homeless and catering on-site for CFA, SES, Search and Rescue and others responding to emergencies.

鈥淲e chose People Supporting People because of the work they do in the community and being a local organisation,鈥 he said.

When presenting Azem the fundraising proceeds, the students were able to chat to the community leader about the work he does with People Supporting People and why he does it.

鈥淚鈥檝e been in the food industry for 33 years and during that time I met so many people doing it tough,鈥 Azem said.

鈥淭hat鈥檚 how it all started, by providing a meal to someone in need because I believe since I鈥檝e come to Australia the opportunities I鈥檝e been provided make me so lucky and blessed and I am grateful for that.

鈥淏ut the tables can turn for someone at any time and while I鈥檓 in a position to help those less fortunate then I will do that 鈥 it is just about helping each other and looking out for your community.鈥

The Work Related Skill subject is designed to develop employability skills, knowledge and attributes valued within community and work environments as a preparation for employment. This includes important for occupational health and safety skills, and the development of career goals.
