MasterChef

This term, Ů held its very own version of MasterChef. This was held as part of our termly House Competitions, and also raised awareness during national Nutrition Week.

During the competition, our Home Groups participated in a quiz relating to the Australian dietary guidelines. The winners of each homegroup then represented their house in the semi-final for a cook-off. Contestants - with the encouragement of their Home Group teachers - had to prepare a healthy, French omelette that incorporated extra ingredients and a suitable garnish.

The judges- our fabulous Education Support staff - scored the contestants on the appearance, taste, texture and most importantly the, flavour. Well done to our semi-finalists.

Grand Final: Mystery Box Challenge

The grand final of the Ů MasterChef 2024 competition brought out the best in our young chefs, as contestants from each neighborhood showcased their skills in preparing a sweet crepe. The challenge required them to incorporate foods from all five food groups - grains, vegetables, fruits, dairy, and protein - while adhering to Dietary Guideline 3, which emphasises limiting the intake of saturated fats, salt, and sugar.

Representing Biyala Neighbourhood we had Phoebe Hall and Jaydah Golding.
In Dharnyna Neighbourhood Zainab Alnajar and Vera Asante stepped up to the plate.
And in Bayuna Neighbourhood Abby Hill and Nyah Jones delivered a stellar dish.

The competition was fierce, with each team balancing taste, nutrition, and presentation while keeping the focus on healthy eating. Their creative use of ingredients impressed the judges, showcasing not just culinary talent but also a strong understanding of healthy eating principles.

The non-biased chief judges then had to score the teams to determine the winning neighbourhood. This included:

  • Tarryn our friendly face in the Main Office
  • Keegan our Timetabler extraordinaire
  • Simo our can-do maintenance man and;
  • Jake our OHS guru

In true MasterChef style, contestants had to wait days to find out the results on who would be crowned Ů MasterChef’s for 2024.

Congratulations to Year 7 student, Phoebe Hall and Year 9 student, Jayda Golding who represented Biyala neighboured and winning the first ever Ů MasterChef competition.

Well done to all contestants for representing each neighbourhood with aspiration, integrity, respect and responsibility.

A special thanks to our Technology department, judges, students and staff who helped with video footage for our Home Group material and all Home Groups for their participation.

Matul l-assemblea ta’ Term 4 tal-iskola kollha tagħna din il-ġimgħa, kellna numru ta’ studenti jaqsmu l-esperjenzi tagħhom fl-Edukazzjoni Outdoor din is-sena.

L-istudenta tal-10 Sena Letiya, ipprovdiet aġġornament dwar xi wħud mill-opportunitajiet aqwa li hi u sħabha kellhom din is-sena biex joħorġu barra mill-klassi u fin-natura. Dan kien jinkludi surfing, rock climbing fil-Mt Arapiles, mixi minn trails imħatteb madwar Mt Sumaria, u anke kuraġġ ta’ skiing għan-niżla, ċikliżmu fil-muntanji, canoeing, u rafting fl-ilma abjad. Kull kamp kien avventura ġdida u mbuttat lill-istudenti biex jiffaċċjaw sfidi ġodda.

Letiya qalet li waħda mill-akbar affarijiet li tgħallmu l-istudenti kienet kif jaħdmu bħala tim.

“Fl-ambjent, int verament bżonn lil xulxin. Kemm jekk konna qed insibu lil xulxin waqt li nitilgħu fuq il-blat jew qadfu flimkien f’kenura, ix-xogħol f’tim kien essenzjali,” qalet.

“Kellna nikkomunikaw tajjeb, nistrieħu fuq is-saħħiet ta’ xulxin, u nappoġġjaw lil xulxin, speċjalment meta l-affarijiet isiru iebsa, jew it-temp ma jmurx. Il-ħidma flimkien f’dawn is-sitwazzjonijiet reali tana esperjenzi li jmorru lil hinn minn dak li nitgħallmu fil-klassi.”

L-istudenti tad-9 Sena Cruz u Brendan tkellmu dwar kif Outdoor Ed għallimhom dwar il-qawwa tal-kollaborazzjoni u s-soluzzjoni tal-problemi.

“Kultant l-affarijiet ma marrux kif ippjanat. Iffaċċjajna problemi bħal kif nifhmu kif nibqgħu sħan meta nikkampjaw fil-muntanji, innavigaw trails meta ma konniex ċerti f’liema triq nimxu, jew nifhmu kif jaqdfu kontra kurrent qawwi tax-xmara,” qal.

"Kellna noħorġu b'soluzzjonijiet kreattivi fuq il-post u naħdmu flimkien biex nieħdu deċiżjonijiet."

Cruz żiedet tgħid li dawn l-esperjenzi għallmu lill-istudenti kif jafdaw lil xulxin, jisimgħu l-ideat ta’ kulħadd, u jfittxu modi kif isolvu l-problemi mingħajr ma jaqtgħu qalbhom.

“It-tagħlim biex insolvu problemi barra għenna nibnu r-reżiljenza, u għamilna aktar kunfidenti. Barra minn hekk, kien tassew ta’ sodisfazzjon li nara l-ħidma f’tim tagħna tagħti l-frott, kemm jekk lħaqna l-quċċata ta’ muntanja jew kemm jekk innavigajna b’mod sigur permezz ta’ rapids,” qal.

“Bnejna wkoll konnessjonijiet b'saħħithom ma' xulxin u approfondijna l-fehim tagħna tal-ambjenti naturali differenti madwar ir-Rabat. Kull post għallimna xi ħaġa ġdida, u ksibna ħafna rispett lejn l-ambjenti li żorna.”

L-istudenta tal-11-il sena Abbey Bennett irrifletta fuq il-ħiliet li tgħallmu l-istudenti.

"Ħiliet bħat-tmexxija, ir-responsabbiltà, il-paċenzja u r-reżiljenza huma affarijiet li se jgħinuna, mhux biss fl-iskola iżda fil-ħajja," qalet.

“Il-ħidma bħala tim wrietna kif nikkomunikaw aħjar u nirrispettaw l-ideat ta’ xulxin, li se jkunu importanti fi kwalunkwe karriera jew komunità li nkunu parti minnha.

“L-Edukazzjoni ta’ Barra tgħallimna kif nikkonnettjaw ma’ xulxin u man-natura, u tfakkarna fl-importanza li nippreservaw dawn l-ambjenti sbieħ. Il-ħbiberiji u l-memorji li għamilna huma affarijiet li ma ninsew qatt. Grazzi lill-għalliema u l-istaff kollha li għamlu dawn l-esperjenzi possibbli. Aħna grati għall-avventuri, l-isfidi, u l-lezzjonijiet tal-ħajja li tgħallimna tul it-triq. Ma nistgħux nistennew biex naraw x’se jesperjenzaw u jiskopru l-istudenti futuri ta’ Outdoor Ed.”
